Seven palestinians killed in gaza blast medics said to be in stable condition in Israeli hospital

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri said Monday that Israeli bombing raids on homes in his country would continue indefinitely, after a blast at the heart of the capital Beirut killed at least 17 people.

"The killing of civilians and the wounding of our civilians continues to be in force. We cannot stop it. There is no way we can stop it," Hariri said on Facebook.

"The people of Lebanon are suffering, it is our responsibility to bring them back, and we will continue to do so with all necessary speed. This is the path that will give us peace, security and stability."

Five Lebanese soldiers died when at least 10 Israeli warplanes struck targets in southern Beirut early Sunday, with others wounded, officials said. All the fatalities were soldiers in the same unit as the bomber.

"The Lebanese army has killed many of them and it is our responsibility to ensure that we can get to the injured and wounded," said a senior government official, not authorized to be named as he was not authorized to speak to media. "We will continue to provide support and security to all those injured and wounded."

Israeli security forces were monitoring the situation closely, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told The Associated Press.

"Hezbollah forces have continued the fight for Lebanon, and we are currently trying to make the effort to arrest him in Beirut.... We continue to monitor the situation," he said.

Earlier, Israeli forces killed one Hezbollah member in the country's southern Negev desert, said the Israeli military.

The raid came as the army's forces began operations in the northern part of Beirut, in preparation for the military offensive to recapture the city, which has been the scene of a bloody 10-day battle to capture the city from Syrian government forces who have seized control over parts of the north. Israeli aircraft had targeted five houses, the army said, on the main road that links the capital with the northern part of the city.

The army later announced that it had killed three other Hezbollah members in the central part of the southern city, though not the other homes targeted. In other areas, the army said, it was conducting attacks.

The military had also opened a border zone in northern Beirut "in order to bring peace and stability to the northern part of the country," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after the Israeli military operations were announced. He said there are no imminent attacks to disrupt Israel's operation there.

Israeli army forces said in an earlier statement late Monday that Israeli air strikes had damaged two buildings they targeted in the northern part of the capital, and destroyed another one in the southern city.
